Fifty Years of Publishing in Social Work

Columbia University Press’s social work program — begun in the 1960s in collaboration with faculty at the Columbia School of Social work — consists of works that focus on social problems, give voice to marginalized populations, and further social justice. The Press’s forward-thinking, interdisciplinary, and foundational list on social work policy and clinical practice has covered topics like child welfare, end-of-life care, aging, poverty, clinical practice, mental health, LGBTQ issues, and substance abuse. These books are widely adopted in courses and used by private practitioners, and have defined the discipline for decades.
