Russian Literature Week, May 1-6 2017
Next week is Russian Literature Week, 2017, and a big week for the Russian Library series as well! Our new book Rapture by Iliazd and translated by Thomas J. Kitson is hot off the press. Tom will be discussing his translation at the Art of Translation roundtable at the Harriman Institute at Columbia on Tuesday at 4:30 pm with Russian translation superstars Marion Schwartz, Antonina W. Bouis, and Lisa Hayden. Ruth Franklin, book critic and author of Shirley Jackson: A Rather Haunted Life, will moderate. The event is co-sponsored by the Columbia Department of Slavic Languages, the Harriman Institute, Read Russia, and Columbia University Press.
Then on Thursday at 5:00 pm Tom will discuss the novel with Russian literature scholar Jennifer Wilson at an event called What’s Old in New: Gender and Power in Iliazd’s Neglected Rapture at the Jordan Center at NYU. This event has been organized in association with the Jordan Center, Read Russia’s Russian Literature Week and the PEN World Voices Festival.
